Day 19 Northport to NYC
Enjoyed a nice breakfast of Greek yogurt and fruit with Wayne and then pushed off for NYC. There would be no golf today and some solid mileage ahead working down Pulaski Blvd, to 25B and finally the last long stretch on the Queens Blvd before the Manhattan skyline appeared 23 miles in the distance.
A rewarding brew at the top of the 59 th St Bridge crossing the East River from Queens into Manhattan. All the NYC bridges (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg, 59th St and George Washington) have nice designated bike paths protected from motorized traffic. Great views of the city from these bridges.
It was fun to be pedaling the streets of Manhattan once again. First stop was the old apartment at 108 East 38 th St at the corner of Park Ave. By chance the old crew from the Townhouse , home away from home for many years, happened to be out front . It was great catching up with these guys….especially with the Red Sox in first place and the Yankees in the cellar
No visit to NYC would be complete without a visit to Rossini’s. Brothers Gerry and Raymond along with cousin Pino have been serving the best Northern Italian cuisine in the city for 30+ years. Rossini’s is a NYC landmark on 38th at the corner of Park Ave…..so many wonderful nights and great memories with Ray. Miss you guys !
