May 7 Day 31
The ferry pushed off sharply at 7:30 a.m. headed for Cedar Island and the 65 mile ride down to Swansboro. The cell phone and along with it my GPS navigation has completely died and will require a visit to an Apple store to get it repaired. The nearest Apple store is back in Va Beach so we will be navigating the old fashion way with a gas station map and asking directions. The downside of course is that Google Maps will recognize that we are on a bike and direct us to safe and less traveled roads. With 250 miles still ahead to get into Myrtle Beach it is going to be a challenge finding safe roads.
After rounding up a map and huddling up with some locals we came to the conclusion that US 12 to State 24 was going to be the safest most direct way down to Swansboro. Some welcome clouds rolled in early afternoon and it felt good to be out of the sun.The roads continued to hug the coats and remain flat.
